De Dana Dan Music Review

The music is below average. Don’t expect any great lyrics. The songs will have extreme reactions: you either hate it or you love it. There is not one timeless tune. The music of Singh is Kinng seems like a masterpiece compared to this one, which simply recycles Pritam’s previous hit tunes.
Once you finish listening to the album, you realize it is downright noisy, uninspiring and unoriginal, leaving you with a headache. It’s amazing how a bunch of talented singers, composers and lyricists cannot churn out a decent album.
Rishte naate (very outdated title) opens the album. Sung by Suzanne and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, it is a very desi song that takes you back to Khudaya khair from Billu. The English lyrics are quite a nice contrast against the desi beats and Rahat’s voice is very soothing. It’s a typical song with a remix seems forced.
RDB’s Paisa has already become quite popular. It borrows unabashedly from Usher’s Yeah! and is quintessentially RDB. The English female vocals are a welcome relief from the sharp Punjabi male vocals. It’s undeniably catchy but we have had too much of RDB with KI, Aloo chaat and SiK. Fans of RDB and the youth who love mindless songs will love it; others will think it is just noise made using all available instruments. The remix should be played only in clubs.
Gale lag ja has an interesting Spanish-tinged opening. Banjyotsna and Javed Ali are on the vocals. It is in the same vein as Ek din teri raahon mein from Naqaab. The song is just about passable. The second version is a tad faster but nothing to write home about.
Baamulaiza reminds us of the songs of Aladin. It’s an out-and-out Spanish carnival song that takes you back to Dhoom 2, replete with Reggae portions.
The lyrics are very silly and directed at 5 year-olds with. Dominique Cerejo, Mika and Style Bhai’s vocals liven up the song but you can’t be bothered to wait till it gets over. The remix is pretty much the same.
Sunidhi Chauhan adds zing to Hotty Naughty which has in-your-face lyrics (courtesy Neeraj Shridhar who should stick to singing) like ‘you want to feel me/you want to kiss me/touch me/ I am hotty naughty babe in town.’ It’s a pointless song with a beginning reminiscent of FloRida’s Right Round but it is catchy and could be fun to dance to. The remix gets on your nerves.
De Dana Dan has a very noisy start with Irish bagpipes. We have no idea who the Ad Boys are but this song doesn’t impress us. The song can only be tolerated in the movie.
