Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Bollywood star, has baby girl

Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has given birth to a baby girl, husband actor Abhishek Bachchan has tweeted.

Father-in-law Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan also tweeted: “I am Dada (grandfather) to the cutest baby girl”.

Aishwarya was admitted to the Seven Hills Hospital in the Indian city of Mumbai early Tuesday morning. This is her first child.

There has been tremendous interest in Aishwarya’s pregnancy from the media and her fans.

“It’s a girl!,” Abhishek wrote on the micro-blogging site at 0952 local time (0422 GMT).

Amitabh Bachchan said he was “ecstatic” to be a grandfather and thanked all those who sent out congratulatory messages.

Aishwarya’s pregnancy had been keenly watched since June when Amitabh Bachchan announced the pregnancy of his daughter-in-law.

“News news news!! I am going to become a grandfather. Aishwarya expecting. So happy and thrilled,” he had tweeted.

According to reports, bookies had bet 1.5 billion rupees (around $30m) on whether Aishwarya would deliver on 11 November or not.

The Bachchans are known as the “first family” of Bollywood and have millions of fans following their every move.

Often called the “queen of Bollywood”, Aishwarya, 37, married Abhishek in 2007, forging the ultimate Bollywood dynasty.

She first charmed the nation at just 21, winning Miss World in 1994. She has acted in several Hollywood films too.

She was the first Indian actress to sit on the Cannes jury in 2003. She has also appeared on the cover of Time magazine as the global face of Indian cinema.

Because of her popularity in India and outside, she has long been the face of cosmetic giant Loreal and high-end Longines watches

The actress who is eight months pregnant, celebrated Durga Pooja with her husband and mother in law Jaya Bachchan. Neeraj Pandey needs a cast of 26 actors and he finalized Abhishek Bachchan for the lead role of conman Mohan Singh. This is because the character hails from UP and so does Abhishek Bachchan. The rural look suits the rugged AB. Also, the character is in his mid-30s and AB falls in the same age bracket. Like the other Rohan Sippy film he is doing, this film will also require plenty of research and character study as Neeraj wants Abhishek to get into the skin of the character.

Abhishek agreed to do the film because he thought A Wednesday was a brilliant film and Neeraj is a very sharp director who will bring out the best in him.

Meanwhile, Neeraj has decided not to make a prequel to A Wednesday and do something different which is why he is making Special Chhabis, which is based on a true story of the 1987 Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri robbery case. A conman, Mohan Singh recruited 26 officers. They posed as income tax officers and raided the showroom and stole jewellery worth millions of rupees in broad daylight. The film will go on the floors in mid 2010 once Neeraj Pandey manages to cast 26 actors who are perfect for their roles. The film will be shot in Mumbai and will be a taut thriller.

Neeraj Pandey said, ‘I am not going to deny Abhishek’s presence but I will make an official announcement once I have my entire cast on board.’ Neeraj is also producing a film called 3 Large, 1 Small which is the story of man who reflects upon his life. He is looking for a director and cast for the film.

For a sequence in Paa Abhishek needed to carry his father piggyback and trot across a vast field. An exercize in role reversal that had everyone on the sets petrified and apprehensive.

After all, it is one thing to play your father’s father. But to carry him on your back and run in paternal passion is quite another.

To the director Balki’s surprise and relief Abhishek simply breezed through the difficult scene. “Abhishek did it in one take. He carried his father effortlessly across the vast field. We shot the sequence near Cambridge in England at a place called Bury St Edmunds.”

The place was chosen not just for its green acres which facilitated Abhishek’s run with his father on his back, but also to avoid large crowds of gawking Indians.

On asked how he felt to be carried by his own son the Big B quipped, “Carrying me piggyback was Abhishek’s job. Jaya and I merely produced a strong boy! No, the most tedious part of playing the 12-year old boy in Paa was the makeup.

I had sto sit still for 4-5 hours every morning without moving, eating or even drinking water. For a sunrise shot I had to be up from 11 am the previous night doing the makeup to be able to shoot on time the next morning.”

The times have changed now and Kareena and Abhishek, who could have been sister and brother-in-law, had Karisma married Junior B, have decided to let bygones be bygones and work together. They made up at KJo’s birthday bash a while back.

A source tells us, ‘Kareena and Karan Johar also had a tiff during the time of Kal Ho Naa Ho. After the success of K3G, he offered the film to her but she quoted a very high price due to which Preity Zinta stepped in her shoes. The two have kissed and made up since and they even shot for a paint ad together. KJo wanted to cast her in Dostana but AB didn’t want to work with her. Now Kareena has shot for Kurbaan and she is also shooting for the remake of Stepmom. If she bags Dostana 2, she will have a trilogy with Dharma which few stars (read SRK) can boast of. It will also end her long standing cold war with John Abraham whom she had once called ‘expressionless.’ Also, Bebo can do any kind of role as she is an expressive and versatile actor.’

Katrina is also in the running for the role but it looks like Kareena, with her Bollywood royalty clout, will beat her to it and Kat won’t get the cream.

Director Tarun Mansukhani denied casting Katrina altogether, saying that the script wasn’t complete as yet but he neither confirmed nor denied Kareena’s presence in the film, which will go into production in London next year. He added, “I want to make D2 funnier than the first and casting someone who has a flair for comedy is important, so its really a toss whom to take for the female lead, and am not ruling out one of the either, but let’s wait till I make an official announcement.”

In their first appearance in a television commercial Bollywood celebrity couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan will show their mischievous side.

The two have teamed up for a soap brand and will be seen getting cosy in the commercial.

The couple has reportedly been paid a hefty amount to feature in the ad film which will be on air this month.

This is their first ad together though the two have featured as a couple in films like “Kuch Naa Kaho”, “Dhai Akshar Prem Ke”, “Umrao Jaan” and “Guru”. Their next is Mani Ratnam’s “Ravan”.

It’s a known fact that Rohan Sippy and Abhishek Bachchan are childhood friends. Since they get along, they have collaborated on Kuch Naa Kaho and Bluffmaster. In fact, when Rohan didn’t work with Abhishek, his film (CC2C) flopped. So he is probably his lucky charm.

Rohan and Abhishek have wanted to work together for a while but they didn’t want to venture into the drama and romance genre again. So they have decided to collaborate on a gritty crime thriller in which Abhishek will play an undercover cop. A source tells us that the movie is based on the drug trafficking scene in Goa. The inspired-by-a-true-story movie will be shot in Goa itself and will go on the floors next year. Abhishek is learning all he can about the drug scene in Goa; how dealers operate and how drugs are used and how cops deal with drug peddlers and addicts. Abhishek wants his performance to be as true-to-life as possible and will also meet a few cops from the Narcotics Department.

Our source adds that though Abhishek has played a tough cop before in Dhoom and Dhoom 2, this movie is nothing like it because the subject is more serious and he doesn’t have any funny sidekick. Abhishek will also sport a tan.

When contacted, Rohan Sippy said, “Can’t speak about the film. But I am concentrating on a Sridhar Raghavan film in which Abhishek is playing the lead role.”
