Reliance MediaWorks to convert Shah Rukh Khan’s Don 2 in 3D

Mumbai: Reliance MediaWorks has begun offering 3D conversion services to Indian film studios.

The company’s first Bollywood 3D Conversion project is the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don 2 for Excel Entertainment and Reliance Entertainment.

The movie is slated to release worldwide on 23 December 2011 in both 2D and 3D formats.

Excel Entertainment’s Farhan Akhtar said, “The 3D conversion of Don 2 has been done exceedingly well by the Reliance MediaWorks team and we are very happy with outcome. We explored the option of releasing the film in 3D by doing a test demo and the results came out looking fabulous and since it was translating well and technology has come to a point where we don’t need to shy away from it, we decided to go ahead and give the audiences a 3D experience of Don 2.”

“After seeing the success of Harry potter which was also converted, we were absolutely sure that the experience and thrill of watching a 3D film is not lost if the conversion is done correctly and seeing the result of the demo done by Reliance we were convinced that we should bring Don 2 to cinemas in 3D,” added producer Ritesh Sidhwani.

Reliance MediaWorks will offer Indian film studios well-established proprietary technologies, creative expertise and powerful tools for 3D project requirements. The company will be able to provide quality and scale of services available through Reliance MediaWorks’ operations in India which includes a team of more than 600 trained 3D artists.

Lady Gaga leaves desi ‘monsters’ wonderstruck

GREATER NOIDA: ‘Mother monster’ Lady Gaga didn’t fail to charm her desi ‘monsters’. The pop icon, who was here for a four-day trip, left her fans mesmerised with her piano skills, her fusion performance, her confidence and her warm “Namaste India”.

All of 25, the “Poker face” superstar landed here Thursday night and addressed a press conference and met some of her fans Friday afternoon. She shot for a chat show with Indian cinestar Shah Rukh Khan and rehearsed long and hard for what was her maiden stage show in India Sunday night.

The singer is lovingly called ‘Mother Monster’ and she refers to her fans as ‘monsters’.

The singer had planned a special treat, and fans were treated to just that — Gaga played the piano herself, and even sang to the strains of a sitar to offer her desi monsters some Indian element.

Known for her bizarre sense of dressing, she chose to go mellow with a creation by designer Tarun Tahiliani for her performance here. She wore a white, knee-length dress and flaunted her open, blonde locks.

She ended her performance with a warm and cheerful “Namaste India”.

Around 1,000 guests, including high-profile celebrities from the film, fashion, F1, sports and business worlds, gathered to witness Gaga perform live at the F1 finale after-party here. And so what if ticket were priced at a whopping Rs.40,000!

The line-up of guests at the Arjun Rampal-hosted party at the Jaypee Greens Golf and Spa Resort in Greater Noida, saw Shah Rukh Khan, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, Preity Zinta, Imran Khan, Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Riya Sen, Raima Sen, Rahul Bose, Sanjay Kapoor, Gauhar Khan, Nigaar Z. Khan, Susanne Roshan, Gauri Khan, Mehr Jessia Rampal, Jackky Bhagnani, Jas Arora and Rannvijay Singh, among others.

F1 racers Felipe Massa, Kamui Kobayashi, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Daniel Ricciardo attended the party as well, apart from a few designers like Manoviraj Khosla, Manish Arora, Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna, Kavita Bhartiya, and cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra.

She bonded well, and met some guests personally too.

But she went a step ahead to do something special for Shah Rukh, who wanted to work with her on a song for his film “RA.One”.

Gaga gave away her personal shades to Shah Rukh for his 11-year-old daughter Suhana.

Of his experience of chatting with Gaga, Shah Rukh told reporters: “It (the interaction) was very nice. She (Gaga) was very sweet. I sat with her for a couple of hours and exchanged a lot of good things about life. She is very deep, very sweet.”

The singer has taken home a unique dress by designer Nida Mahmood. The outfit, a short dress, is made with 1,000 LED lights.

Describing it, Mahmood told IANS: “The dress which I made for her was part of my WIFW SS-12 collection titled The Great Indian Bohemian Tamasha. The dress is little above the knees and is embellished with over 1,000 LED lights. The digital print has been carefully designed incorporating the essence of Indian street theatre. The colours are very Indian – a mix of orange, red, green and blue. I call it ‘Jadugaar dress for magical Gaga.’”

Sonakshi Sinha will replace Priyanka Chopra in Kunal Kohli’s next, Janam Janam Ka Saath Hai Tumhara Hamara opposite Shahid Kapoor. Sonakshi appears to be on a signing spree now (aakhir Salman Khan ka haath hai uske sar pe)!

“I’m really looking forward to working with Shahid,” says Kunal Kohli. The director tweeted on Sunday morning: “Shahid Kapoor and me working together in my next film. Will hopefully sign the heroine in the next few days. Will keep you posted.” The yet untitled film will be starting in April once Shahid wraps up the shooting for Mausam. Kohli will be producing-directing the film.

Kunal’s film with Shahid is a love story and will have music by Pritam while Prasoon Joshi is writing lyrics. Has he finalized the actress? “I haven’t decided the actress. I wouldn’t want to speculate as I don’t believe in it. I will tell you once it’s finalized. We’ve just finalized Shahid. He was going away to Punjab to shoot Mausam and I was releasing Break Ke Baad. In the middle of it we finalized and signed.”

Kohli had earlier announced a film with Saif Ali Khan. He had also written about it on Twitter (now deleted) as to how things didn’t work out between him and Saif. So, is Shahid doing the same film as what was earlier being done by Saif? “It’s a completely different script,” says Kohli. Why didn’t Saif’s film go through in the first place? “Saif was signed by Ashtavinayak to do a film. He requested me to come in and see if I could do a film with him. I wasn’t ready with that script. I was also simultaneously working on this script for a while. I felt this is the script I want to make first, so I am making this film. That film I will do later when I am fully happy with the script.”

Having worked with seasoned actors like Aamir and Saif, Shahid is a much inexperienced actor in comparison, even though he’s wonderfully talented. “Shahid has done Kaminey, Jab We Met, Vivah, he has done some brilliant films. I am sure Mausam will be another brilliant film. He is a very very interesting talent,” says Kunal.

Kohli’s latest Production Break Ke Baad released last Friday. Talking about the response to the film, Kohli says,”Break Ke Baad is getting a good response from the youth specially. It’s too early. Let’s see how it goes.”

Sherlyn Choprais bold and sexy and she has proved this by posing nude for PETA. The gal is again going to make guys fall weak in the knees by posing naked for a men’s magazine Playboy. To do the photo shoot, the actress has received a call from Hugh Hefner’s office with the offer.

“I have never posed nude therefore I was a bit apprehensive about the offer. But I got a photographer friend to do a few test clicks and I loved the results”, quips Sherlyn. She has got a fit and flexible body as she is a regular performer of yoga, “I can do positions which the magazine would love,” quotes Sherlyn.

“I wanted to meet him for a long time and the time has finally come. I will be going to his mansion. I have heard so many interesting stories about him and now it’s my chance to know him up, close and personal,” she added.

Sherlyn is over the moon with the offer and she was eagerly waiting for the opportunity for she wanted to make India proud by posing for the international magazine.

Shooting of the Kangana Ranaut-Madhavan starrer “Tannu Weds Mannu”, planned in a mosque in this Punjab town, was cancelled after protests by the local residents, police said.

According to the officials, the shooting of the movie was planned inside a mosque here but was cancelled on the orders of Kapurthala deputy commissioner Rajkamal Chaudhary.

“Members of the film unit had started installing the sets inside the mosque Friday night. On seeing this, members of Muslim community gathered outside the mosque and started raising slogans against the administration and the filmmakers,” said a police official.

“They threatened to interrupt the shooting as it would allegedly affect their religious sentiments.”

“Tannu Weds Mannu” stars Kangana Ranaut, Madhvan and Jimmy Shergill. It is produced by Shailesh Singh and is directed by Anand Malhotra.

Bollywood is heading for another splitsville and this time it is actor Arshad Warsi and wife Maria who have been together for over a decade now. The reason is the same old one- the entry of a third person in a happy marriage. Apparently, Arshad’s linkup with Dia Mirza had been disturbing Maria and time and again, news of trouble in their relationship kept cropping up.

Although, the couple seemed to have compromised on the issue in the past, but the problem has resurfaced again, this time more vehemently. As such, The couple has called for quits and Arshad has moved out of his Yari Road house after a fight with Maria and is presently staying in a flat at Andheri. Arshad moved out before reaching the sets of Golmaal 3 in Goa where he is currently shooting. Their two children are with Maria.

Though this is not the first one in the tinsel town, the breakup definitely came as a surprise for the friends and pals.

India’s music maestro AR Rahman and Bollywood’s lovely London beauty Katrina Kaif were the chief guests at a gathering recently held in Mumbai to launch the nursery rhyme collection ‘Rhymeskool’.

During her address, the actress, who has given a voiceover for the collection, said that people really want to listen to her voice, somebody wants her to speak in Hindi or somebody wants to hear her sing. She confessed that she is terribly bad at singing.

In the meantime, AR Rahman, who was sitting next to her, immediately invited her to join his group for a free one year course in basics! Well, Kats couldn’t refuse while she blushed.

Notably, the compositions in the album, released by Saregama, have been scored by Rahman’s students. “I have a lot of expectations from my students and I am confident that even though it is a kid’s music album, the music will be loved by people of all age groups,” AR Rahman said.

Shah Rukh and Sushmita reunite after their scorching pairing last seen in Main Hoon Na way back in 2004. Directed by debutant Mudassar Aziz, it is a complete family entertainer, and while Shah Rukh plays a cameo in the film, his character is integral to the storytelling of the film.

The film also stars Fardeen Khan and Tara Sharma. While the story of Dulha Mil Gaya is being closely guarded, producer Viveck Vaswani speaks of his ambitious next saying, “Dulha Mil Gaya is a complete romantic family entertainer- a major break from the type of films that have surfaced this year. It’s an event film and Shah Rukh making his appearance in the film only doubles the celebration for the audiences.”

Dulha Mil Gaya is also the first Bollywood film to be shot extensively in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Director Mudassar Aziz says, “The experience of shooting there was unbelievable and the film highlights that aspect in its storytelling.” Dulha Mil Gaya has seen its share of setbacks, one being SRK feeling that he was taken for granted with his cameo appearance being stretched for more than 15-20 days of shooting.

A source close to the actor adds, “Shah Rukh was told that his part in the film would need just 8-9 days of shooting. He soon realized it was more than just a cameo he was shooting for. Viveck knew that the crowd puller is Shah Rukh and Shah Rukh alone, and that being the reason, he extended his role to several other sequences. What upset SRK is that this wasn’t told to him earlier; however; considering they’ve been friends for a while now, he let it go.”

When Viveck was quizzed on this matter he said, “When there are certain matters that delay a film; they are bound to give rise to such baseless rumours. I have not taken any advantage of my friendship with SRK; and you can tell when you see the film that he has an important role in the film. However, he is not the prime focus. Yes, there will be people suggesting otherwise, as he is the most bankable star in the film. I just hope the film gets a tremendous opening like all SRK films.”

The film, which was slated to release this year, was held back due to the strike and will now release early next year on January 8th, 2010.

Just a few film old Abhay Deol is making waves not in B-town but Hollywood as well. We hear that the ‘Different Deol’ was recently seen in the company of Hollywood legends like Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese at the Tribeca film festival in Qatar.

Talking about the event, Abhay told a daily, “I actually rubbed my eyes in disbelief. I couldn’t believe that I was getting a chance to interact with two of the most powerful names in Hollywood.”

Deol admits that neither De Niro nor Scorsese has seen his film. However, when they got to know that he was an actor from India who had come to Doha with one of his films, they were very polite with him.

Talking about the two actors, he says, “These guys are amazingly humble. Both, De Niro and Scorsese, congratulated me when they got to know that my film was a part of the festival. They wished me good luck for my career.”

“Both these guys knew that I was a newbie wanting to get my work noticed at the festival. And they had only kind words for me. I wish at least one of them had seen my work though”, adds Abhay.
